Android Ice Cream Sandwich Share Doubles

Android Ice Cream Sandwich Share Chart

Android Ice Cream Sandwich Share Doubles to 15.9% in August ::

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the new cat’s pajamas in the mobile world, but Android Ice Cream Sandwich is just now beginning to make its footprint. In fact, its install base increased from a 7.1% share of all Android devices in July to a 15.9% install base in August, according to the latest data from Google.

Android 2.3-2.3.7 (Gingerbread) still has the largest share of Android platforms at 60.6%, and we imagine that’s because of customers who are locked into two-year contracts with older devices that have not been issued upgrades to Android 4.0 yet. Android 1.5 Cupcake is still installed on 0.2% of all devices, Android 1.6 Donut has a 0.5% share, Android 2.1 is installed on 4.2% of all devices, Android 2.2 Froyo still has a con

siderable 15.5% share and Honeycomb is installed on 2.3% of devices.

‘The latest operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, is only installed on 0.8% of all devices. We’re not surprised by that figure since it’s only available on the unlocked Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and the Nexus 7 tablet (and to the brave bunch who have installed custom ROMs).

At this rate we’re not expecting Jelly Bean’s penetration to increase until fresh smartphones and tablets begin shipping, or until manufacturers begin pushing out updates. It will probably take another year before we see it pass the 10% mark.
